
Christopher R. Gareis, Ed.D., is Associate Dean for Teacher Education and Professional Services and Associate Professor of Educational Leadership at the College of William and Mary in Virginia. He is a former high school and middle school English teacher, as well as a former middle school principal and assistant to the superintendent. Dr. Gareis joined William and Mary in 2001, where he directs the teacher preparation program and continues to develop a network of partnership schools and clinical faculty in support of pre-service teacher preparation and novice teacher induction. Dr. Gareis has worked with school districts, state departments of education, and schools in the areas of teacher supervision, teacher evaluation, teacher compensation, strategic planning, facilities planning, teacher preparation, mentoring, assessment for learning, and instructional leadership. Dr. Gareis frequently presents at state, local, and national venues, and he is the author of numerous professional publications and co-author of three books—Teacher-made Assessments: How to Connect Curriculum, Instruction, and Student Learning (Eye on Education, 2008); Teacher Pay and Teacher Quality (Corwin Press, 2006); and The Handbook on Teacher Portfolios (Eye on Education, 2001).
