Faith E. Crampton

Dr. Faith E. Crampton’s professional career has spanned public education, senioradministrative positions in state government, senior research and policy positions in national education and legislative organizations, and graduate faculty positions in public and private research universities. She retired as Associate Professor of education finance and policy in the Department of Administrative Leadership at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and is an education consultant serving as president and CEO of Crampton & Associates, a firm specializing in rigorous, results-oriented education finance research and policy analysis. She is past president of the Fiscal Issues, Policy, and Education Finance Special Interest Group of the American Educational Research Association and a past member of the Board of Directors of the American Education Finance Association. She is also a past member of the Board of Directors for the University Council for Educational Administration’s Center for Education Finance. She has held graduate faculty appointments in education finance and the economics of education at the University of Oregon, University of Rochester, and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Outside academe, she has served as senior researcher with the National Education Association, senior policy analyst and consultant for the National Conference of State Legislatures, and deputy director of the Ohio Student Loan Commission. She is a highly respected expert witness in school finance litigation and consultant to legislatures on school finance reform. She has published widely in leading journals such as the Journal of Education Finance, Journal of Educational Administration, Educational Considerations, National Association of Secondary School Principals Journal, Journal of School Business Management, Journal of the Council of Educational Facility Planners International, Multicultural Learning and Teaching, NASSP Bulletin, School Business Affairs, and West’s Education Law Reporter, in addition to authoring numerous monographs, reports, book chapters, and policy briefs. She is executive editor of the scholarly journal Educational Considerations, consulting editor for The Professional Educator, collaborating scholar with the National Center for the Twenty-First Century Schoolhouse, and member of the editorial staffs of the Journal of Education Finance and Journal of Women in Educational Leadership. In 2003, she published the groundbreaking book Saving America’s School Infrastructure, with a foreword by the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy. Dr. Crampton has presented scholarly papers and given invited presentations to national and international research and policy organizations, such as the American Education Finance Association, American Educational Research Association, British Educational Management and Administration Society, Center for Budget Policy and Priorities, Council of Educational Facilities Planners International, Council of State Governments, Education Commission of the States, Education Writers Association, The Finance Project, NAACP, National Conference of Professors of Educational Administration, National Conference of State Legislatures, National Education Association, North Central Regional Educational Laboratory, Organizations Concerned About Rural Education, and University Council for Educational Administration. She began her career as a public school teacher.
