Ivan Muse

Ivan D. Muse is a Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership at Brigham Young University.  After teaching high school science in Tucson, Arizona, he attended Stanford University as a doctoral student and then served as a high school administrator in Santa Maria, California for four years.  Offered a teaching assistantship at the University of Utah, he completed the Ed.D. in 1967.  He served as a high school principal at The Cherry Creek School District in Denver, Colorado before assuming a professorship at Brigham Young University.

During the past two decades in higher education, Dr. Muse has authored numerous articles, book chapters and monographs on topics ranging from rural education to school leadership.  He started serving as Chair of the Department of Educational Leadership in 1991.  Within a 10 year period, his department received the LEAD grant for administrator preparation, three Danforth Foundation grants and a grant from the Utah State Board of Education for the preparation of school leaders.  The Leaders Participation Program (LPP) is nationally recognized as one of the best administrator programs in the country.  BYU and three other prominent universities have been funded since 1992 to form an Alliance for the Improvement of School Leadership.  In addition, he developed the statewide Mentor Principal Preparation Program and initiated the School District Teacher Leader M.ED. Program.
