
James H. Stronge is the heritage professor in the Educational Policy, Planning, and Leadership Area at the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Virginia. His research interests include policy and practice related to teacher quality and teacher and administrator evaluation. His work on teacher quality focuses on how to identify effective teachers and how to enhance teacher effectiveness. Dr. Stronge has presented his research at numerous national and international conferences such as the American Educational Research Association, University Council for Educational Administration, National Evaluation Institute, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and European Council of International Schools. Additionally, he has worked extensively with local school districts on issues related to teacher quality, teacher selection, and teacher and administrator evaluation.
James Stronge was selected for the 2011 Frank E. Flora Lamp of Knowledge Award by the Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals (VASSP). Currently, Dr. Stronge is engaged in multi-year partnerships to assist the development, training, and implementation of state-wide teacher evaluation programs for Virginia, Georgia, and Louisiana. In addition, Dr. Stronge is providing consulting across the world on issues of teacher evaluation. The areas and countries he has consulted or given key note addresses recently include China, Taiwan, St. Kitts, Panama. He completed development of a new teacher evaluation system for American schools in South America last year and will begin a new project on principal evaluation for the Association of American Schools in South America next year.
Stronge has authored, co-authored, or edited 22 books and more than 100 articles, chapters, and technical reports. Some of his recent books include:

Dr. Stronge has been a teacher, counselor, and district-level administrator. His doctorate is in the area of educational administration and planning from the University of Alabama.
