Lori G. Wilfong, Ph.D., began her career as a naïve (and yet know-it-all teacher) at a middle school in East Los Angeles. Two days into her job teaching English to 6th, 7th and 8th grade English Language Learners, she realized how much she didn't know about teaching and this set the course for the rest of her career to learn as much as she could about motivating adolescent readers, reading in the content areas, young adult literature, and differentiated instruction. A frenzy of advanced degree getting followed, including a master's in Reading Specialization and a doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction, both from Kent State University.
She worked as a literacy coach and a literacy specialist in rural and urban districts in Northeast Ohio before landing in the department of Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum Studies at Kent State University at Stark, where she currently is an Associate Professor, teaching courses in literacy to both preservice and practicing teachers.
Lori continues to hone her skills in school districts, working with teachers with one goal always in mind: to make all students love reading. She has been published in esteemed journals such as the Reading Teacher, Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy, Voices from the Middle, and Science Scope. She lives in Munroe Falls, Ohio with her husband, Bob.
