Pamela D. Tucker is a Professor of education in the Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia, and serves as Program Coordinator for the Administration and Supervision Program. She works with developing school leaders and teaches courses in school law, school and community relations, learning communities, human resource management and school improvement. As a K-12 teacher and school administrator, Dr. Tucker worked with a variety of student populations and served as a special education teacher and administrator, coordinator for a state-level homeless education program, and an advocate for elementary alternative education programs. She is active in professional organizations at the state and national level that promote and develop educational leadership for schools. Her research on teacher effectiveness, school leadership and school improvement has been published in journals such as Educational Administration Quarterly, Journal of Personnel Evaluation in Education, Leadership and Policy in Schools, Educational Leadership, and The School Administrator. Books co-authored with others include: Teachers’ Guide to School Turnarounds, Linking Teacher Evaluation and Student Achievement, Handbook for the Qualities of Effective Teachers, and Educational Leadership in an Age of Accountability. Recent grants include a three-year FIPSE-funded project entitled, An Innovative Pedagogical Response to the Widespread Need for Educational Leadership Program Improvement, and a state-level contract for Advancing Virginia’s Leadership Agenda. The FIPSE grant has supported the development of web-based, interactive cases for the development of pre-service administrators’ decision-making skills and the Virginia Department of Education contract produced guidance documents for the state on new leadership standards and professional development guidelines.
