Richard E. Smith is the chair and professor of educational leadership in the Graduate School at Seattle Pacific University. He had previously been a high school teacher and coach, elementary school counselor, middle school principal, assistant superintendent, and superintendent. He earned his B.A. in mathematics at Seattle Pacific University and both his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Oregon. His main focus and concentration during his career in education has been on human resources functions. He has written several journal articles, but this is his first book. In addition to teaching, he regularly consults with education and other organizations regarding personnel functions.
