
Robert Lynn Canady is professor emeritus, University of Virginia and Senior Education Consultant, Center for State and National Programs for Educators, Continuing Education, University of Virginia. He received his Ed.D. degree from the University of Tennessee and his M.A. degree from Peabody-Vanderbilt, Nashville. His major publications have been in the areas of grading practices, implementing programs for at-risk students, and restructuring schools through block scheduling. He has served as a consultant in 45 states and with the Dependent Schools in Germany.
Lynn has taught in grades 4 through 12 and served as principal of elementary, middle and junior high schools in Tennessee and Kentucky. He also served in various supervisory positions in the central offices of the Chattanooga and Oak Ridge Schools in Tennessee. In addition to receiving the Phi Delta Kappa Distinguished Service Award and the Outstanding Professor Award in the Curry School of Education, Lynn has received two university-wide awards for distinguished teaching and service at the University of Virginia. In June, 1997, he was presented the Lamp of Knowledge Award by the Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals (VASSP) and in 1998 he received the Educator of the Year Award by the Virginia Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development (VASCD). Lynn and his wife, Marjorie, have four children -- Carol C. Payne, Donna C. Sylvester, Robert L. Canady, and Sarah C. Schultz -- all of whom completed their K-12 education in the public schools of Virginia.
