Warren E. Combs, Ph.D., is founder of Erincort Consulting, Inc., of Athens, Georgia, a professional development fi rm committed to the use of peak-performance strategies in the teaching of writing. A longtime researcher in the teaching of writing, he promotes classroom action research as the model for rigorous teaching and learning. He is a speaker, trainer and author of more than nineteen titles in the teaching of writing for writing to learn content standards, learning to write and sentencecombining practice. There have been signifi cant increases in student performance on tests of ELA, math, science, social studies and writing in classroom action research at schools that undergo his training. He coauthored The Writing Process and authored Empowering Students to Write and RE-Write in addition to several journal articles and white papers. Topics on which he regularly speaks include Writing to Learn the Math Curriculum (CTAE, ELA, Science, Social Studies), Writer’s Workshop for the Common Core, Classroom Action Research Made Easy and Monitoring the Progress of Young Writers.
Dr. Combs has worked with administrators and teachers, as well as directly with students in a host of K–12 schools across the Southeast and Midwest. His signature is demonstrating key practices in the teaching of writing with students while teachers observe from the perimeter of the room. He holds a B.A. in English, an M.A. in English linguistics and a Ph.D. in child development and English education.
