ABOUT FRANKLIN SCHARGEL

Franklin Schargel, a native of Brooklyn New York, now residing in Albuquerque NM, is a graduate of the University of the City of New York. Franklin holds a Masters Degree in Secondary Education from City University and a second Masters Degree from Pace University in School Administration and Supervision. His career spans thirty-three years of classroom teaching, counseling, and eight years of supervision and administration as a school administrator. Additionally, Franklin taught a course in Dowling College’s MBA Program.

Franklin served on the Guidelines Development Committee for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in Education and was, for two years, an examiner for the Baldrige Award. He also served as a judge for the Secretary of the Air Force Quality Award and a judge for the USA Today/RIT Quality Cup. He is the immediate past chair of the American Society of Quality’s Education Division. Mr. Schargel was recently honored by the National Dropout Prevention Center’s Crystal Star Award for “demonstrating clear evidence of success in dropout recovery, intervention, and prevention.” As Senior Managing Associate of his training firm, School Success Network, Franklin has presented countless workshops for educational, community, and business groups throughout the United States, Europe, Canada, and Latin America. His workshops are for teachers, administrators, counselors, support personnel, students, parents, business leaders, policymakers, and anyone else interested in building world-class schools. They cover a wide variety of topics, including addressing the at-risk school populations and dropout prevention, educational leadership, empowerment of staff, interactive learning, organizational change, parental involvement, problem solving, Career and Technical Education. He is the author of five well-received books and many articles published in the leading educational journals and business magazines. Mr. Schargel has a regular monthly Internet column at www.guidancechannel.com. Franklin’s success in dramatically enhancing the learning process in his inner-city school, expanding parental involvement, increasing postsecondary school attendance, and significantly lowering the students’ dropout rate, has been well documented in 25 books, 55 newspaper and magazine articles, and five internationally released videos (including a Public Broadcasting Special.) The United States Department of Education, Fortune Magazine, Business Week, and the New York Times have recognized his work.
