Despite the lazy days of summer, the professional learning taking place at the Learning Forward Summer Conference held in Denver, CO was anything but. This was the largest attended summer conference in Learning Forward’s history.

Eye On Education recently returned from the Southern Regional Education Board's High Schools that Work Staff Development Conference at the New Orleans Convention Center. Nearly 800 teachers, school leaders, district administrators, and other educators stopped by Booth #105 to enter our raffle to win a Kindle Fire, chat with our authors and purchase some great books!

Eye On Education recently returned from the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) annual convention at the San Diego Convention Center. We had a great time in sunny San Diego, meeting teachers, school leaders, and many other educators who are constantly looking for new and better ways to integrate technology into their schools and districts. 300 people stopped by Booth #5482 to chat with us and enter our raffle for a free Technology Book Bundle!

The event brings together educators and educational publishers from across the country to share best practices and resources. What Great Teachers Do DifferentlyEye On Education sent four staff members to the NMSA/AMLE Annual Conference in Louisville, Kentucky: Morgan Dubin (Marketing Associate), Lauren Beebe (Editor), Jon Rothman (National Accounts Manager), and James Canero (Sales Assistant).

The conference was a great success with the following authors visiting us in the booth: Todd Whitaker, Sherrel Bergmann, Judith Allen Brough, David Shepard, Bryan Harris, and Amy Sandvold. Attendee loves our new What Great Teachers Do Differently t-shirts, and David Shepard taught some attendees how to do the longitude/latitude dance right in our booth!

The momentum of the Common Core State Standards continues to build. Two weeks ago, SMARTER Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) released its "content maps and specifications" in English/language arts and the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) issued its "content frameworks" in both subjects. These are both draft documents that will be modified based on feedback. Meanwhile, as this work continues to move forward, do teachers just sit and wait?

Four members of the Eye On Education staff were in Nashville, TN three weeks ago for the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB)’s High Schools That Work Staff Development Conference. The event took place at the Gaylord Opryland Resort, which is quite a complex. If you haven’t already done so, check out the pictures posted to our Facebook page. It’s a pretty cool place!

Dr. Sandra Harris, co-author of Examining What We Do to Improve Our Schools: 8 Steps from Analysis to Action, Managing Conflict: 50 Strategies for School Leaders, and other Eye On Education titles, won the National Council of Professors of Educational Administration (NCPEA) 2011 Living Legend Award. This award honors those who have dedicated themselves to research and teaching and made significant contributions to the field of educational administration.

Southern Regional Education Board's (SREB) High Schools That Work Conference took place on July 20-23, 2011 in Nashville, Tennesse's Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center. The theme of the conference was Creating Learning Opportunities That Make Every Student Extraordinary.
